About Naomi A

Canadian born, NAOMI A .now calls Boston home. A graduate of the Faculty of Music and Opera School, at University of Toronto, she continued singing professionally for some years. However, her hands were never empty backstage. Many early performance gowns were self-sewn. Eventually, this hand activity expanded to include further studies in: costume design; painting, drawing; drafting; a two-year metalsmithing program, along with courses in architecture and interior design.

"I found working with my hands a relaxing diversion from the intensity of preparing to go onstage. It always brought calmness, and a better performance."

'70's - While continuing to sing, she worked for a Toronto interior design firm doing residential interiors, but left to develop her own practice.

'80's - A trip to Hong Kong, inspired her to expand professionally and include costume jewelry. By the mid 80's the NAOMI 'A' STUDIO was producing a line which attracted over 350 retail accounts in Canada and the USA.

'90's Accessories such as scarves; vests; buttons; tabletop jewelry; fur coat closures and eyeglass chains and holders, were added and substracted as dictated by the market. As well in the 90's, Naomi conceived and designed, TRAVEL EYES, a handy travel case for all eyewear needs and their accessories, for which she holds a USA Design patent.

'90's too! - Hungry still to enhance her knowledge, she returned to full-time studies taking a two-year college program in metal-smithing. By the late 90's, all commercial work was stopped to focus on unique pieces. This website shows this evolution.

"A true designer looks to solve problems, while an artist looks for new uniqueness. I hope to present pieces with fresh ideas, which are functional as well as beautiful.".

Artist's Statement

A true designer, looks to solve problems, while an artist seeks uniqueness. I set out to design and make pieces that are comfortably wearable. They harmonize with today's style, but have a classic feeling to achieve balance for longevity. They should be fun to wear and make the wearer feel happy! Some have a sense of whimsy, even humor!
